As we wrapped up the first quarter of a new school year, we look back at what we have done, and among the many things, is PowderPuff! In 2023, our DECA members brought PowderPuff back to OOHS after COVID-19 to raise money for Project Woman Ohio.
This October we continued the annual event with 100% of entry proceeds going towards a non-profit called “Cancer Support Community.’ Our DECA members chose this non-profit to support our coffee shop partner, Crimson Cup, and their belief in “Coffee & Community.” The Cancer Support Community offers free programs and services to those coping with life-threatening issues. It helps people find a sense of community among others with whom they can share, learn, and improve their quality of life.
We kicked off PowderPuff 2024 at Orange Middle with our Senior girls taking on the Sophomores, followed by the Juniors against the Freshman. This first round ended with the Seniors and Juniors on top, facing off in one last game in which the Seniors won! Throughout the night each team sported their different colored shirts, made through the hard work of our DECA members. In addition to making the shirts for the games, our project leaders coordinated with local businesses to bring food trucks to add some extra fun!!
To accompany the games and fun activities, the goal for the night was to bring awareness and raise money for Cancer Support Community! In addition to the money raised through entry fees, our students updated our website to include a page for donations, as well as an on-site spot during the games for separate donations. Our website still has an option for donations towards Cancer Support Community, so feel free to make a donation if you would like! We will tally up our donations and make contributions soon, hopefully before the holiday season is upon us.
A huge thank you to Little Ladies, Dos Hermanos, our refs, everyone who helped run the event, and everyone who participated and came to support.
