One of the main purposes of DECA is to prepare high school students for the business world through work and experience based learning, paired with academic education. One of the ways this is accomplished is through DECA competitions at the District, State, and National level where participants all engage in DECA Competitive Events.

Competitive events are competitions which simulate a business-based scenario, often paired with an exam aimed at testing your knowledge and/or a presentation/application of what you’ve learned. An overview of event options is below: 

Principles events	*Open to first year DECA members only 1 Exam / 1 Role Play simulating a scenario challenging certain aspects of businessYou and a judge play a character in the situation
Series events	1 individual member / 1 Exam/1 Role Play Similar to Principles events, however, much more specific career area than Principles
Team Decision Making events	Teams of 2 people 1 Exam / 1 role playAnalyze a 1 page case study and prepare a solution / Present your solution with your partner to a judge
Prepared/Project Events	Teams of 1-3 people Prepare and present a written report prepared in advance; Formally present to judgesMany areas including Entrepreneurship, Research, Project Management

Event topics range from Apparel and Accessories, to Marketing Communication, to Travel & Tourism, to Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and then some… DECA has a competition for most career areas and clusters of business.

At Districts on Dec. 10th, 2025, the OOHS DECA chapter was well represented across numerous events and did very well overall. As usual, Orange brought home plenty of hardware with 29 people placing in the top 3!

All in all, at DECA Districts, Orange came to play! Even with everything that the DECA members do, they know how to apply what they’ve learned in a wide range of scenarios and competitions, as seen here earning 29 1st-3rd place awards, SIX 1st place medals!
