Last school year was a whirlwind to say the least. With Covid-19 ending the in-person school year suddenly in mid March, we had to make alternate plans for our spring service project!
#RALLYCOLUMBUS – Spring, 2020
We usually participate in some type of health, fitness or wellness event(s) in the spring to raise money or awareness for a cause. We have volunteered at races, participated in run/walks, hiked and more! For spring 2020 we were planning to participate in…
A) Running in and/or volunteering at the Frozen Banana 5K in Dublin, benefitting the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation – dedicated to the health and wellness of children in central Ohio.
B) Doing our annual Run for 3.21 for World Down Syndrome Day
Unfortunately, both events were canceled due to the quarantine.
We then decided to collaborate with Columbus Running Company and promote their #RALLYCOLUMBUS campaign… a cause promoting the concept of continuing to move and stay positive during these uncertain times. Students were encouraged to log miles (run, walk, bike) and post pictures on their social media accounts to encourage others to join in. We covered a lot of miles and hopefully inspired others along the way!
We are hoping the upcoming 2020-21 school year will allow us to still plan and participate in a variety of service opportunities. Even though there may be limitations, social distancing guidelines and other obstacles, we could all use some “cheer” – the kind that comes only from doing something kind for someone (or something) else.
